PMS Colors

PMS Color Codes

The Pantone Color Matching System is a standardized color reproduction system. For example, if you simply asked for "red" you might get candy apple red, blood red, rose red, or another of the many shades of red. I label each design with the PMS code (such as PMS 485). This way, the manufacturer knows exactly what color is desired.

I choose PMS colors from a physical Pantone Formula Guide book to be sure of the exact shade. You can reference the online color guide, but these colors are only approximations. Everyone's monitor is different and you may not be seeing the true shade. Keep in mind also, that the monitor tends to make the colors look brighter. Generally, the colors will be darker on the actual tag. If you are concerned with the color, I recommend that you visit your local print shop and ask to look at their PMS Formula Guide Solid Coated.
